Testing, testing . . .

Hello, world, indeedy. This is my first attempt at a blog. If it looks like shite, whoops, sorry. I’ll figure out how to fix it later.

I am an aspiring novelist. I am slowly (painfully!) approaching the 10,000 hour mark discussed in Malcolm Gladwell’s book “Outliers,” a concept I found quite intriguing. As it says in my profile, this hasn’t made my life any damn easier yet. My little sister suggested I try blogging as a way to reach a bit of the public (i.e. her), so here I am. Hi, Annie!

I thought it would be interesting to write not about writing so much as about the process of becoming a writer. Stephen King talks about the process of growing up and being shaped into a writer in his book “On Writing,” and I think he’s spot on. It’s a long process, started when yer wee hands crack the spine on the first book you will ever love. (Chronicles of Narnia, in case you wondered.) Or is it the first time you ask your mom “what if?” instead of “why?”? (This one drove my mom bananas, BTW.)

To that end, I’ll be writing here in my own voice, not a professional or authorial voice. I use accents and bad english, swear less often than I used to but not for lack of trying, and love the sound of my own voice. You gotta problem, don’t read. I am in the process of writing a novel at the mo, so I thought I would talk about the trials and tribulations therein as well as how I arrived thus far. I am a fantasy writer. I like vampires and faeries and ghosts and epic swordfights to the death, and that is what I write. If you think that’s not high-brow enough, good for you. Don’t read. If you’re a big damn geek like me, welcome! The ten-sided dice are on the table, though my cloak is at the dry-cleaners right now.

I’ll try to keep posts relatively short. Do loooove the sound of my own voice though . . . anyway.

Posts will also likely be sporadic. I am married, own three cats and one horse, work almost full-time, have a novel I’m working on, try to have a social life, learning belly-dancing, and I’m the HP of a local coven. I am busy! I’ll try to give y’all (Annie) some love as often as I can.

Hi! Glad you’re reading. Hope you like what I’ve got.  Cuz my Poe-lovin’ gamer-geek ass ain’t been bringin’ a whole lotta nothin’ to the yard so far. Sigh.

I’ve been poking around here and I love this blog. Great personal experience, great advice, great … sense of humility and humor. I’ve decided to read all your posts.
