Character sheet for Sebastian

Height: 5’9″

Weight: 195

Eyes: Blue

Hair: Blond, long, worn in a club or tied back

Build: Muscular, slender

Distinguishing marks: no tattoos, no piercings, no obvious scars. A few small scars hidden under his clothing from his human days, but he would make sure to keep those out of sight. No specific moles, freckles, or birthmarks. He’s handsome enough, but otherwise fairly forgettable, and he likes it that way.

Family: I guess I never thought about this, and I probably should. He had human parents, probably siblings. He had to leave them when he got turned. I know he really doesn’t remember much about them anymore. But they were there, and they would have made some impression on him.

Education: What sort of education does a shepherd from 1500s Scotland receive? Slim to none. He knew how to take care of sheep. Maybe how to count. He probably didn’t even know how to read the Bible. That was what the clergy at the church was for, and that was probably all in Latin, as they did in Europe for a very long time. He would have learned how to read, write, and figure once he joined the pack, and he probably had to teach himself. But he probably would have been mocked and held down for not being able to do those things, so learning became very important.

Religion: He would have been brought up in the religion of the day, most likely Presbyterian. That sect of Christianity came about because of Protestant reforms of Catholicism, though, so they wouldn’t have been reading the Bible in Latin at his church. One of the Protestant complaints was that the average person should be able to hear and understand the Bible, not just clergy reading it in Latin. Sebastian’s current religion is dead-ass athiest, because in all his years on Earth he’s seen no evidence that there is any sort of god anywhere. At first he would have rebelled against a cruel God for punishing him so, and then as he realized that God didn’t seem to give a shit about his hatred, he would have started to think there must be no God at all. While he still has some throw-back thoughts to his religious days, like a vague concern that maybe Hell is real, atheism is his overall view of the world in modern times.

Hobbies: Ha. His hobbies include swordsmanship, hand-to-hand fighting, and physical strength practice; reading non-fiction, observing his surroundings, practicing or learning languages, and sitting around thinking about life and existence. I imagine he reads a lot of philosophy and natural science. He doesn’t like to talk about all of that always, though. Largely because he doesn’t see how his conclusions matter to anyone but him.

Favorite animal: He had a dog once when he was a shepherd. He relied on the sheep for a living. Otherwise, he doesn’t think about them much. They’re so short-lived, and not helpful for a vampire. Also, dogs don’t tend to like vampires much. Cats are hit-and-miss, contrary beasties that they are. Sebastian doesn’t pay attention to them.

Favorite article of clothing: no preference, though he’s grown comfortable in work boots, jeans, and button-up shirts. Casual, practical, blends in most places. He is perfectly capable of dressing up or down as the occasion requires, and being just as at ease in either way.

Favorite drink: Uh . . . I once imagined that he would take whiskey neat and coffee black, and this might be true, but he doesn’t drink anything at all besides blood and wouldn’t even think of trying anything else. He’s far too pragmatic to bother with things he can’t do.

Favorite food: No. Just no.

Favorite vacation: No vacations. Ever. Not in 500 years. When he travels, it’s for spying, gathering intel, killing, or making threats. Not for pleasure. This man is uptight.

Does he have a favorite philosopher? Well, no. They all have something thought-provoking and interesting to say, while at the same time only glancing on what his own issues truly are. He likes to use the works of humans to spring-board his own thoughts and ideas, but no one of them has really captured his attention as being more worthy than any other. Some are a little worth ignoring, but even then, knowing what they’ve had to say and wondering why they might have said it is worth contemplating.

Favorite music: Does he like music? I don’t think he thinks about it much. Kind of? He’s spent a lot of time mostly ignoring it or just learning genres and popular dances that he might need to hide in plain sight, he doesn’t really like music so much as find it useful for certain purposes. I think as he loosens up, he might start to enjoy some of it. I think he’d be more inclined to folk or folk-rock, just because it would be more familiar to him, more like what he might have heard performed when he was human. Classical would be too uppity, pop would be too jarring.

Movies/ TV: Again, no. He watches the news. He likes local news, and world news. That’s it. He wants to be kept informed, he wants to watch for things that might imply the activity of other vampires he’d have to watch out for.

He really is a single-minded man. He enjoys training Ian and talking with her and Josephine, and thinking deep thoughts.

He probably needs to get out more.
